My Students

Each year we have more and more students who have families struggling to make it and who often have to move in with relatives after a job loss. There are some families that are homeless and need more assistance. Many also come from military families. We have many cultures represented at our school. The students at our school really want to make good choices and we have a staff that is working to help guide students. Our staff continually goes above and beyond to help their students. The school is based on the idea that we are all part of the same team, and we work towards helping all students. Almost 100% of certified staff work as mentors during their personal time to give students who need extra help the attention they need. We are working hard to make sure our students are prepared for the future. We have added a Makerspace and are now working to extend our STEAM clubs, and we are encouraging girls to participate in STEAM activities.

My Project

We use Julia Cook books in our classroom guidance lessons. There are some recently released books we would love to add to our collection. They focus on topics that we are needing to address. There are some other titles that we also would like to help with coping skills. The fidget balls are very much needed. We have autistic students and other students with anxiety that really need to have this sort of manipulative to have them help deal with their feelings.

Students struggle with many issues, and it is important to help students process through these issues.

The books will help us as we address topics that are impacting our students. My students love her books and they really listen and remember the lessons.

With more and more students experiencing anxiety, I have run out of stress balls for my students. Students can not learn if they are stressed out and worried. We are learning strategies to help them relax.

We have found success in many areas, and we want to be able to continue these through the end of the year. I am very excited to use the Julia Cook books with some students that are struggling in some of the areas of focus.
