For my first classroom, I’ve been working to create a calm down corner, in which students will be able to visit when feeling overwhelmed. This calm down corner will include sensory toys, affirmations, a mirror, and some soft seating options.
Students getting overwhelmed, angry, or upset in the classroom is very common, but having a safe way to deal with these emotions is crucial.
I strive to create a learning environment where students understand that emotions are okay, and there are ways to deal with these emotions and work through them.
