My Students

I have just switched from PK-3 Specific Learning Disabled to 4 & 5 grade Deaf & Hard of Hearing Oral Program class. It has taken 22 years teaching General Ed, then Special day class for to me to end up with my original goal - to teach the Deaf & hard of hearing students.

They are an amazing group of students, high functioning and ready to learn, but just no teacher this year - so I took up the call and moved programs.

My school is an intercity public IB public school, that requires our fifth graders to do a culminating project. I'm looking to support them.

My Project

I just moved from special day class - lower grade Learning Disabled class to the Deaf & Hard of Hearing, Auditory program upper grade class at my school.

As a International Baccalaureate (IB) public, non-charter school our 5th graders have a culminating project called Exhibition.

I have 4th and 5th grade students now, which are able to use reading programs I have such as Reading A-Z Raz-Kids, and other software / apps if we get these Pads.

Our school does have IPads, and we have access once a week to the lab, but with these DHH 5th grade students, being such strong students, they are mainstreamed part of the day. That is the delightful challenge - when to work with them on their IB Exhibition Projects when they are pulled out at different times and different subjects. This is why I think the Samsung Galaxy Pads can support my students and make a great difference in their success.

As my students are available we can get to work with the classroom Samsung Pads on an individual or small group bases on their projects. Currently the 5th grade students are brainstorming their topics and by February they will get their mentors support from all of our school staff. The pads, using the app SeeSaw, will help my students collect their research, gather data and pictures and communicate with their mentors.

One of the great components of our IB Culminating Project is that it has a Action Piece where they are to make a difference in their community, and they have to present their final presentations as well. I appreciate your support for my DHH students.
