Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Shared buddy reading is a tool that helped my 2nd graders to make an average of 1.75 years progress in reading last year in a high-need district where most students only make .5 years progress.

Having a large supply of books at various levels is absolutely essential in teaching children to read in a classroom where 12 out of my 22 students came into 2nd grade reading significantly below grade level, 5 came in at or slightly below grade level, and 5 came in well above grade level.

The We Both Read Series is an amazing resource that would allow me to place students in centers where students at various levels could read with a buddy and feel successful. While I am reading with small groups in powerful guided reading sessions, students would be able to use these books in a buddy read center where my struggling readers could read a page that is on their level, and their partners could read at a higher level within the same book. This way, the struggling reader is supported, and the advanced reader is challenged.

While meeting the needs of children who come into 2nd grade reading at anywhere from a pre-kindergarten to a 4th grade level is extremely challenging, your help will ensure that I can meet the needs of each of these students and push them forward so that they can meet their own personal goals of being at or above grade level by the end of the school year.
