My Students

Do you remember when you were in 1st grade and science was one of the most EXCITING things to learn about in school? With my class, I want to foster this excitement and help them continue that excitement throughout their educational career!

I have 25 smart, talented, and curious first graders.

They love to learn, draw, and discuss things as a class. They come from an area that is high-poverty, but that does not stop them from wanting to learn the most that they can. The students are so caring--they bring drawings to teachers daily. They give hugs all the time. Many cry when they have to leave school--they want to stay and continue learning. Our school works to foster the excitement of education for these students, and to encourage them to continue working toward their education even beyond high school.

My Project

My students will use these iPads in order to work with apps that help them organize the data that they collect in their science experiments. They will use the iPads to work on their favorite math program--ST Math. They love Jiji the Penguin and constantly want to learn how to advance their knowledge to help Jiji through his quest. ST Math has its own app, and students at this age do so much better with the touch screen rather than using a mouse on a computer. These students struggle with holding mice that are bigger than their hands, and oftentimes will click on things that they don't mean to click on. iPads have solved this problem for them, so that they can drag and drop math problems and answers without having to click.

This project will make a difference by allowing my students to achieve the most that they can achieve.

They may not have the same resources as students who are more fortunate, BUT they are just as excited if not more excited than those students are about learning. My students will further their growth as individuals and as students with these iPads. In a world where technology is becoming more and more prevalent, we can't let our younger students fall through the cracks. Please consider helping.
