Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a Title I school in a city school district. In our public city school, many scholars are diverse, multiple language learners, and at-risk readers. Currently, the entire school population receives free breakfast and lunch. Many scholars are also from low-income households. However, they are warm, loving, and continually searching for ways to grow and become better each day. I am honored to teach such wonderful children.

I enjoy providing scholars a multitude of experiences to connect the curriculum and enhance their learning while promoting equitable access and allowing them to be creative and stimulate their curiosity.

My scholars are eager to learn, excel and connect the curriculum in the school library media center. As the school librarian, I am able to reach every student in the school. I have been teaching for nineteen years and I take a great deal of pride in my work. I strive to make learning fun and engaging as I have been focusing on transdisciplinary learning to help scholars have authentic and powerful learning experiences.

My Project

Teenagers, just like adults, are always busy, on the go and sometimes do not take time to eat. Truthfully, eating on the go is often a necessity in order to accomplish all we do in a day. High school students will skip lunch and not eat since food is not allowed in the library. We seek to change that!

The requested cafe tables will foster social and emotional learning as children are returning to schools and need human interactions to feel in touch and connected.

The tables will allow them to gather, socialize and talk, while social distancing. The cafe tables will help kids gather, but also remain safe. The cafe tables will provide support for social & emotional learning as they create a doorway to embrace human connections and interaction. Kids can eat their food before doing their work. Having these tables will keep food to only the entrance and away from the books and computers. This way kids do not have to sacrifice their energy or nutrition in order to complete their work. Thank you for your time, consideration and support of public school children. When you care about them, you care about the future.
