Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are writing for the 21st Century! We are not only drafting and publishing on paper, but also online on an interactive school site & class E-Zine. We are more excited than ever to express our ideas and thoughts. Without requisite tools, it is near impossible to achieve our goals.

My students are some of the 1.1 million students who attend public schools in New York City.

As in most public schools in urban areas they represent the underprivileged and underrepresented populations in our nation. My students are diligent, creative, enthusiastic learners that attempt to take an active role in their education. They are incredibly mature and amazing when it comes to the talents they have and are able to share with our school. They always put their best foot forward and approach everything they do with a positive attitude. My students attend a pre-k to fifth grade school in which more than 99% of students receive free or reduced price lunch. With that being said it is a quite obvious how valuable every educational opportunity and experience is for them.

My Project

The Project is a yearlong writing endeavor to go beyond the standard writing curriculum by teaching students to 1) effectively draft in word processing programs and 2) use technology to enhance the quality and meaning of their writing (i.e. through formatting, pictures, etc.). Our school lacks funding for technology that we need readily available to achieve our goals for the year. My students need a class printer and a year’s supply of ink so that we can publish our work and share our writing with the school and community. The printer would also allow us to print out and work on drafts when our limited computer lab is unavailable. Without ready access to our computer lab and without a printer, it is very challenging, near impossible, to stay on course with our exciting writing program. Please give my students the opportunity to learn and better themselves, give them what so many students across the nation have access to in the comfort of their own home.

With continued exposure to technology education my enthusiastic learners will be given the opportunity to become literate and technologically savvy.

These fundamental skills that they are learning will be able to help them to prepare for middle school, high school, college and beyond. In our ever changing world, please help my students to be prepared for what the 21st century has in store for them.
