Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are an all girls class located in the highest and most disadvantaged economic area of the South Bronx, NY. Some days can be a bit emotional and dramatic. We are a group of sweet and spicy girls with many feelings, yet we always try to choose calm and easygoing! We try to be mindful of situations that sometimes occur where we just have no control over them. Therefore, we look to one another to try and be good citizens towards each other and push ourselves to keep school as a place of higher learning and a safe haven where we know we will become a part of this world. We work together as girls empowering each other and watching out for one another every day. We try to keep the drama outside of our room and choose to fill our room with kind words, negotiating situations and sticking to pure giggles! We always try to listen to each other and to be fair and honest, while showing respect to one another. As an all girls class, we focus on being ourselves and accepting one another's personalities and striving to be leaders.

My Project

Being that we are in fourth grade, we will be creating informational writing pieces. This will require the girls to use technology to help them gather sources and articles for their writing. If we have iPads and tablets, the girls can be in small groups to share the devices and gather sources to help them in the writing process. The iPads and tablets will reinforce these skills and further their love of researching. They will have the opportunity to explore many topics and learn all about them. The girls will be filled with various sources to help them become successful writers.
