My Students

My students are inquisitive, smart, adventurous third graders from an urban STEAM Magnet. They thrive in inquiry-based, challenging, hands-on learning environments where they love to create, engineer, and solve problems. As a classroom in a STEAM Magnet students are exposed to integrated lessons every day.

The students need to see themselves in the STEAM we do!

Exposure to the people of STEAM who are female as well as male, black, brown, and yellow, as well as white, and young as well as older will ignite aspirations and dreams.

My Project

Since my students reflect a variety of cultures and genders it is important that they see people who look like them reflected in the books they read. Seeing people who look like them will create role models for future aspirations.

In the chosen STEAM titles there is representation from different cultural groups, different genders, and different age groups.

These role models will inspire and create a foundation for our STEAM work this year. We will discover and question like Wangari and Emmanuel, investigate and create like William and Georgie, resist and improve like Sonia and Ruth. These strong role models, who look like the students in class will reach them in a way I may not be able to.
