Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are very tech savvy for five year olds. They yearn for fast paced, fun apps to learn and grow. They are children with an awareness of the new age of technology. Hands on is the way to go! My students will meet and surpass the common core state standards, and will step up to 1st grade!

My students consist of both low income general and special education kindergarten students.

They are like little sponges that are ready to absorb what you expose them to. The students currently only have two desktop computers in the classroom, that constantly has problems. They do not have the opportunity to go to the computer lab, so if they do not get a chance in class to go on the computer, they have very little exposure. Many of my students do not have access to computers at home. My school provides a nurturing environment for students, but there is a need for many projects to be funded, due to the lack of money available in the school budget. The students are hungry to learn, and should be empowered to do so with today's varied methods. The students are in need of support in both ELA, writing and Math and it is evident in their scores. Students need repetition and need skills to be reinforced.

My Project

By providing students with these iPads, students will be able to log onto websites that will support my teaching efforts and give students an opportunity to extend their learning and put into practice the skills that they have learned and build on the areas they need to improve. iPads will open the students up to a wide array of specialized areas in all content. For example, students will be able to log on to Raz-Kids, and read their leveled books online. They will be able to use Starfall to both identify letter, sounds and read, in addition to the many math websites to encourage students to learn to count, add, subtract, and solve word problems. Students have the common core standards to work towards and using this online tool will help students to achieve meeting these standards.

Donations to this project will improve my classroom by allowing students to go online, strengthen skills and have fun doing so.

They will be able to access innovative programs that will foster an increase in computer usage at school. This will in turn create a level of appreciation for technology, and will increase students desire to learn. Students will have a new found love for technological initiatives and will embrace it into their lives. They will be ecstatic to share with loved ones.
