My Project

Since Covid the need for students to learn how to participate in collaborative discussions about their learning has dramatically increased along with their need for decoding more challenging texts. These magazines and books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. My classroom is a place that students love to read and be read to. Incorporating a series with robust vocabulary and plot elements into our read aloud will help build my students background knowledge and vocabulary banks. The Storyworks magazines will allow readers to read various types of text around a common theme which helps to create rich collaborative discussions. Having a decodable book series will allow struggling readers to practice reading similar text as their peers with books that allow them to continue practicing their decoding skills. Adding more options for flexible seating to use while reading will only increase student excitement and engagement with reading. Students will also build their knowledge of words with fun cryptic messages.

The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and having these magazines and books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading.

My students already have shown an enjoyment in independent reading, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word.
