This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine hearing a child say, "Can I take an apple home? We don't have a lot of food in my house."

My students are growing up in an unsafe, extremely economically disadvantaged neighborhood.

As Kindergartners, this is the foundation of their experience in school. My students are learning to love school through our exciting hands-on, experience-based classroom. Unfortunately, my school is lacking tremendously in resources and funding, and we were provided with hardly any materials.

My students need the proper materials, resources, and furniture to succeed in school!

My Project

Every day, my kindergarten students have the opportunity to read during our "Reader's Workshop," where each student is working at his or her own reading level. Since my students are new to reading, we need so many books that are at a low-level yet are still exciting and engaging. These "Brand New Reader" books would be the perfect addition to our classroom. Every student would be able to have enough books in his or her book baggies to sustain the whole Reader's Workshop block! It is so important that my students develop a life-long love of reading at this early age!
