Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students attend a Title I school and are between the ages of 3 and 5 years old. The students attend our classes 2 to 4 times a week for 2 1/2 hours each session. While they are in our class, they receive many supports such as occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech therapy. Our classrooms serve children on IEPs as well as typically developing children.

We are constantly searching for things that will help them succeed in all areas of development.

My Project

Learning through play and movement is very important for all ages of a child's development. Our students have developmental delays that affect all areas of learning including gross motor skills. The items that we have chosen for gym and outdoor play will increase coordination, balance, muscle strength, and even social skills as they play with peers.

My two team members and I are hoping to combine our funding in order to obtain a variety of different equipment that will benefit our children.

The tunnel my team member is requesting will help our children move and coordinate arms and legs together and maintain balance. The basketball hoop my team member is requesting will allow our children to strengthen their muscles as they throw balls over their heads while maintaining balance and coordination; it will also help them feel more confident, as they are currently very frustrated because they can't make a basket with the full size basketball hoops in the gym. The hula hoops my team member is requesting will spark the children's curiosity and allow them to experiment with movement and balance. The cart I am requesting will help us to contain our gross motor equipment in one location so that it is easier to move and store.
