Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher in a low-income poverty-stricken area, I have never seen students with so much determination and willpower to make a better life for themselves. My students are excited and eager to learn on a daily basis. They have many shortcomings but they do not let that deter them from working hard and receiving a quality education. They inspire me to do by absolute best for them daily.

They are special because many of their parents or siblings did not graduate high school and they are still engaged in the learning process.

Many of my students were affected by Hurricane Harvey but they do not let that discourage them from their ultimate goal which is graduation. A large population of our school is on free or reduced lunch so it is difficult to get the necessary supplies and technology that is needed to stay competitive in this ever-changing global market.

I believe my students can accomplish anything they put their minds to and will not let the circumstances of their background determine what type of student they will be. I am so proud to be at my middle school with my wonderful students.

My Project

The materials will increase rigor for my students by allowing them access to resources and books outside of the classroom. My students love to use technology but unfortunately, it is not readily available to our students. We will have the opportunity to have class discussions using Edmodo and other resources that the district provides.

The iPads will give me the opportunity to build engaging lessons using Schoology that the students will appreciate and enjoy.

Reading books alone are a thing of the past and I am trying to teach my students skills they will need in the workforce in the 21st century. This is why I'm also requesting books, paper, Clorox, and highlighters.
