My students may not come from the greatest homes or have a wealth of experiences, but they do give 100% plus when they come to school. We talk about challenges and how to face them. We talk about staying positive no matter what our situations. We are always learning from each other. To see the smiles on the faces of my students daily makes me one lucky person. It makes me proud to see the resiliency in my students that come from challenging backgrounds.
For most of my students, school is the place where they gain experiences and feel safe.
My students attend an inner-city school that has Pre-K through 5th graders. Most of the student come from diverse backgrounds and struggle academically. School is a place where they are able to learn about technology, as most students have no internet access at home.
My Project
In supporting my classroom's donorschoose project you will be supporting the students in my classroom. This support will provide the necessary resources as they research the Earth's surface.
In a world where the land and environment are changing so quickly, we need to start educating the young!
This research project covers the following national science standards:
-Use information from several sources to provide evidence that Earth events can occur quickly or slowly.
- Compare multiple solutions designed to slow or prevent wind or water from changing the shape of the land.
-Develop a model to represent the shapes and kinds of land and bodies of
- Obtain information to identify where water is found on Earth and that it can be solid or liquid.
My student are going to become researchers of the Earth's surface with these books. The students will be put into expert groups where they will use the books to research specific regions of the United States. These books were carefully chosen to keep the student's interest while becoming research scientists. Students will be able to utilize these books as their main source while extracting information needed to write an expert book. The students will use the table of contents to locate information needed to write an all about book. The students will access the glossaries to create accurate glossaries in their own books. When they are finished researching and conducting some STEM challenges they will become authors. As authors they will take their research through the writing process and create all books. These books will cover two important literacy standards. Theses books will be excellent examples of successful authors.
