This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My eager fourth graders are from Worcester, Massachusetts. They all come to school with smiles on their faces but have very different learning styles and needs. Many students in my classroom face challenges on a daily basis. These students range from special education students to students learning English for the first time. And many of these children come from high poverty neighborhoods. School is their safe place. My class loves to work with one another and they love to meet in places all around the room, not necessarily sit in their seats all day. They love to participate in activities that engage their bodies and their minds. They love to learn with technology and as their teacher, I love to think outside of the box.
My Project
The materials requested in my project will directly impact student learning. Our math curriculum comes with very little "hands-on" materials for active learning. The math games and learning materials will give them a hands-on learning experience. This will take our lessons to the next level and will really increase student engagement. The math manipulatives I have requested will be a great addition to our current curriculum. For example, we teach equivalent fractions and multiplying fractions in 4th grade. The fraction overlays will be a great way for kids to see how we can use models to help us.
These items will be sure to increase student engagement and result in higher levels of student understanding and comprehension of math content.
The items I have requested can be multi-purposeful and will be able to be used by lower-level students who need re-teaching, average learners who are learning a new skill, and advanced students to help enrich their learning.
