My Students

Every day my students greet me at the door with a smile that shows me they are eager to start the day and are excited about learning. What they are most excited about is afternoon play centers where they have free choice for their learning.

We are in a rural community where many of my students don't have opportunities to experience the world.

I strive to provide a brain-compatible classroom for all my students through cooperative learning and conscious discipline.

My Project

A 75-year old tree recently died and had to be removed from in front of our K-12 school campus. When discussing what to do with the large vacant space left once the tree was removed, our district's administration and school board decided to proceed with a new patriotic area for our school and rural community.

The 4' recyclable plastic bench requested in this project will provide seating for students in an outdoor classroom environment.

The 6 benches planned for this area (watch for other projects to post) will each represent a different branch of the military. The recyclable plastic (type 2 plastic, like milk jugs and water bottles) used as the bench material will ensure there is low maintenance (no staining, painting, splintering or replacing of rotting boards). Not only will students use these benches throughout the school day as an outdoor classroom, but will also be able to access the school wifi even after after normal school hours. The dusk-to-dawn lights funded part 1 of this series of projects will help keep this area safe and allow students (as well as other community visitors) to be recorded on our district's security cameras.
