Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students start the day by reciting the five school values, which drive student and teacher motivation. One of those values states,"We believe that each of us can learn and that in school we grow to become all that we can be." Another value of the utmost importance is, "We believe that going to school is the most important thing we could do right now."

Essential school supplies are at the core of our daily classroom routine and, quite often, several students cannot afford to bring their own supplies.

That's where having a class set of supplies is much needed. As I look forward into the next school year, I want to provide a classroom environment filled with supplies at their fingertips.

My Project

In 6th grade students are exposed to an abundance of informational text, as they are starting to prepare for high school. These texts are high level, complex and filled with vocabulary, diverse text structure, and students must incorporate their prior knowledge when encountering the challenging texts.

We need pencils, scissors, highlighters and dry erase markers.

Students will use these resources as theyread texts within our Language Arts curriculum. Annotating involves interacting with text and color coding when encountering new ideas, making predictions, or questioning as students read. Annotating has been proven to improve concentration as students reread a text to comprehend a text's key ideas or concepts. It also helps we we interpret the author's use of connotative and figurative language within a writing piece.
