Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students from Los Angeles attend an amazing unique school, one that is certified as an International Baccalaureate world school and offers a Dual Language program. These programs give my students from diverse backgrounds and various incomes an opportunity to learn, thrive, engage, and acquire the necessary skills to be successful in the district, the community, and beyond.

My enthusiastic inquiring fourth graders enter my classroom everyday ready to learn, discover, and explore.

As the academic demands increase by this grade level, so does their engagement. To maintain their enthusiasm for learning, I constantly use various modes of expression to allow opportunities for their creativity to flourish. Writing is an avenue that my students enjoy to communicate their creative thoughts and ideas.

My Project

Writing takes time and commitment. The process alone can motivate or disengage students from communicating their ideas. Having a captivating audience in their classmates to share and read their written masterpieces can delight and spark an interest even in the most reluctant writers.

Focusing on the process as an art and craft in creating a book can allow all learners to partake in all forms of writing and immediately show enthusiasm to want to entertain, persuade, or inform an audience.

A replacement laser color toner can allow students to print their writing along with color images or photographs to help readers visualize their content, whether the setting of their narrative, or an infographic of the rock cycle. Additionally, a binding machine will give students the flexibility to sequence and layout their writing in the format and order they best see fit to match their narrative or expository writing. Lastly, the laminating machine will help students provide a cover for their book, giving it a finished, published look. All of these materials will allow students to use their creativity to communicate their ideas and ultimately, feel like real proud published authors.
