Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students love creating art! They jump at the opportunity to draw and color. They would also love to paint. Unfortunately, our school does not have any money for paint or other art supplies. The lack of other art media severely limits my students' ability to be creative.

I teach a diverse group of students.

I have students whose families come from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, India, the Philippines, and the United States. Fourteen of my students are English learners. Many of my students are from working class families. My students' families are interested and involved in their children's educations. As a school community, however, we need assistance to obtain materials to enrich student learning.

My Project

The tempera and watercolor paint, watercolor paper, brushes, and pastel crayons that you are funding will allow my students to explore the basic elements of art. They will learn about line, color, shape, space, form, and texture. They will use the watercolor and tempera paint to create tints, shades, and neutral colors. They will also use both types of paint and brushes to make landscapes, seascapes, and cityscapes and to create watercolor washes. The art my students create will allow them to express their creativity. It will also allow them to show their understanding of other content. For example, they will be able to represent their understanding of patterns and geometrical shapes through their paintings. As a result, they will become better mathematicians through creating art.

Pencil and paper are great tools. My students can sketch, draw, and shade with such tools. They can use crayons to add color. But with the tempera and watercolor paint, brushes, and pastels you are funding, my students will be able to create a far richer variety of art pieces! We thank you in advance for your generosity!
