My Students

Our school corporation is a rural district, trying to equip our students with the skills and experiences to be successful in our ever-changing world. I have the privilege to teach first grade in our small rural district.

My first grade students are excited about the world around them.

As their teacher, it is my goal to create opportunities to make them curious about the world around them. My goal is to empower them to ask questions and find answers. My students are world changers.

My Project

My students need four sets of canvases, paint, brushes, sequins, paper, pastels, clay, books such as Monsters Love School, Go Away Big Green Monster and I Ain't Gonna Paint No More, and smocks to create art story projects. I have requested these art supplies and read-aloud books for my students to creatively express their thinking! We are going to read The Dot and make a paper and paint dot collage. My students will read How Loud Is a Lion and draw and paint their own loud lion. I can't wait to see their monster collages after reading Monsters Love School.

My goal as an educator is understand the standards but to teach the children.

I want children to learn to love reading. One way to inspire a healthy love of reading is to complete creative art projects instead of filling out worksheets. I long for my students to notice and note details in stories both in words and pictures.
