My students are preschoolers who attend The Special Children's School. The Special Children’s School is a NC public school located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. In this unique school, the staff teach and support young children with special needs in an inclusive learning environment. As a Licensed, 5-Star Developmental Day Program, children are served in a smaller class size setting to better meet their multiple physical and learning needs. The school enrolls up to 125 children from 3 years old to 11 years old. About 25% of the students do not have special needs, so children with and without disabilities play and learn side-by-side. The school primarily serves preschool children, but it also has a typical kindergarten class and two elementary classes for students with significant disabilities. Students are taught and cared for by a highly qualified and specialized team of teachers, therapists, and a school nurse that are dedicated to helping children meet their maximum learning potential.
My Project
America is indeed a melting pot, and today--more than ever--it is vital for students to learn about different cultures and abilities. Children need to learn about how they are similar and different from others.
My students need materials that reflect a variety of cultures and abilities to learn about the world around us.
By providing multicultural and multi-ability books, toys and puzzles, students have the opportunity to learn about others and become accepting of all cultures and abilities.
Help me prepare my students to live in a diverse world in which they are accepting of all people.
