My Students

Even my young students can be stimulated and learn from computers. I usually bring my personal laptops from home to allow my students to play educational games on them as special treats at least once a week. I would love for my students to have access to the computers as a learning tool every day!

The students in our class all range in the ages of 3 years old up to 5 yrs old.

All of my students have special needs but are all making progress. The range of disabilities in our class ranges in abilities but all the students come to school to work on their own goals to succeed. We are the only special education classroom in a general education elementary school. Our school is located in a lower socio-economic area which makes it hard to ask parents for big donations. Even though our parents may not be able to financially support our materials, we receive a lot of support elsewhere by parents volunteering time and additional smaller resources for our classroom. My students inspire me to be the best teacher I can be.

My Project

Even though my students are young, they all seem very interested in the computers and its games. I often download educational games (i.e. memory, alphabet games, numbers, shapes, etc) that the students are very interested in to increase vocabulary and enhance knowledge. The vintage computer we have in the class is not current enough to allow the students to play an entire session/lesson of games on the computer; it usually freezes before the students get to the end. The computer is mostly used to search images and pictures the students often want to see and color.

Many of the students do not have access to computers in their homes.

I would love to provide the opportunity to offer my students access to two new computers as a learning tool in school on a daily basis.
