My Students

If you walk into room 2200 you will see students kissing their brains, working hard to fill the classroom warm fuzzy jar, and dancing for wiggle breaks throughout the day. You will hear music and chimes help guide classroom routines and rituals. Most of all, you will find 25 excited first graders!

Our school is located in the inner city and is made up of a diverse population of students.

There are 601 students; 70% are english language learners and 93% of our students qualify for reduced or free lunch. I work with a passionate and caring group of teachers who work together every day to create the best learning environment for our kids. My classroom is full of 25 amazing first grade students who come to school excited and eager to learn. My students are funny, silly, smart, strong and energetic. There are seven different languages spoken in my classroom and each student brings a unique background and story. They thrive on positive praise and movement throughout the day. They work hard everyday in writers workshop, readers workshop and math. The students get excited about technology as many of them do not have access at home.

My Project

Every lesson is taught on a big rainbow rug, where the students have their own space to sit. Whether I am teaching math, reading, writing or doing a fun project I am always at the front of the carpet doing my best to keep them engaged. Engagement is challenging because the easel I use to model is not big enough for all kids to see well. Over one third of my students are english language learners so not only do they need to see what is on the easel, but they need to decode it to fully understand what is going on. Having a document camera accessible for each lesson so all students can see on the smartboard would dramatically increase my students engagement and ability to learn. Students will be able to work much more independently and successfully if they can see exactly what I am doing every single time and have the visual support of the Document Camera.

Having a Document Camera will create an equitable environment where all students have the same visual access and an equal chance to learn.

Students will become more independent by having a substantially better visual to guide them in their learning. Students will be more engaged if they can see everything that is going on when I am modeling or teaching a lesson. Students will have access to technology they would not otherwise be able to utilize.
