This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The Overfelt Royals badminton team needs your help! As we grow and expand our team each year we need the equipment to help train and develop our players. Our team is a family and wants your support. I took over as coach 2 years ago and we almost doubled the number of student athletes on the team!

Last season, we had over 40 high school student-athletes in our badminton family.

Our team included returning players and many new members interested in joining. Overfelt is a school located on the East Side of San Jose, CA and students at Overfelt come from an area that is has a lower socioeconomic status compared to other high schools in the Silicon Valley area. Many of the students who join the team fall in love with the sport, but limited funding does not make it possible for many students to buy quality equipment that will help them improve in their sport and reduce their chances of injuries.

My Project

In the first two years as coach, I have seen interest in the badminton team nearly double! Almost 50 students joined the badminton team last year, and most were new to the sport. The racquets we are requesting will equip returning and new players with the tools necessary for success in competition, and can help reduce some of the fatigue use injury lower quality equipment can cause. The funding for our team is extremely limited, and it is difficult for many students to afford the few pieces of equipment necessary to participate and succeed. With new scoreboards, we can replace our old and broken scorecards that are missing numbers. The racquets mean that all students interested in playing will have a racquet to practice and play with. Supplying birdies will allow us to have enough on hand for practices and matches so we do not have to ration them as we have in the past to lower costs.

These donations will provide us with the equipment to continue expanding and developing our team that is a real family.

Many of the athletes on the team will spend almost, if not more, time together. By being provided with these donations, we will have less worries about fundraising and more time for practicing.
