My Students

I want to make an impact on my students through artistic experiences and self-discoveries. One of the biggest challenges my students face is the inability to express their emotions properly. The arts at my school have become an outlet and safe haven for many who have struggled.

My students are a product of their environment.

Many of them never leave their town or experience the things that help shape children into positive, contributing humans. My goal is to give them these life- enriching experiences inside of my classroom. I have broken up fist fights, scrubbed curse words off the walls and desks, and seen great poverty almost daily in my school. I have also seen a student's face light up with pride after seeing their artwork on display. There is no greater reward than building a relationship with a child that furthers them not only in the art room; but in life. Some days I cry for them, some days I push them, some days I feel like I am not cut out for this job. I know the students in my school have the potential to do great things, they just need a teacher who believes in them and the resources to build experiences.

My Project

Students Pre-K through 8th grade will benefit from the materials and supplies donated. Simple materials such as crayons and paper are limited. My students deserve to have the opportunity to change their life and education through the arts. They will learn to respect the materials, the classroom, their peers, their teachers; and ultimately themselves. My third graders will use the sketchbooks to build ideas and express themselves. It is my hope that these sketchbooks will be filled with artwork and personal thoughts so that by reading them I can understand each individual better. Building relationships with my students will inspire them and help me to resolve conflict. They will learn about the art elements and make their own self-discoveries at the same time. In the younger grades I want my students to have positive interactions in the art room. Creating hand puppets and then working together to play and create a show will spark imaginations and build a collaborative environment.

This project will help me introduce my children to new experiences that would not be possible otherwise.

I want to provide my students with the best education I can possibly give them. It starts by giving them opportunities to create and grow in a positive and safe environment. I can't wait to see what the year has in store for us in the art room and I know that every challenge will be met with even greater rewards.
