This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I have the privilege to teach art at three elementary schools in my district. We are having a blast creating in the art room, but we go though a lot of supplies. We have done a lot of watercolor painting this year and are in need of a big reorder of supplies. In reading art teacher blogs, I am excited to try something different in how I distribute watercolor paints in the classroom. By reorganizing paint trays into warm and cool colors there will be less "muddy" pallet messes, students will learn how and when to use the different color pallets, and I can add some new colors to the mix by ordering refill packs. This will also be how I refill palettes going forward.

I want to give my students access to quality art supplies, so that they can be successful in their journey as artists.

We are also in need of a new liquid glue system. Students of all ages tend to use too much glue when using glue bottles. And glue sticks, while so easy, don't last long. I just hate the amount of plastic waste we create going through dozens of glue sticks. We have tried using paint brushes and glue in little condiment cups. "Dip dip, let it drip, wipe it on the lip lip," is what we chant when we use our brushes with glue. This is much more successful, however the cups don't keep the glue fresh and they dry out. These new glue bottles with a built in brush will be a game changer.
