The art experience is a time for exploration of ideas through diverse materials. Creating through drawing, painting, collage, weaving, sculpting and more provides elementary school students with fine motor skill development, critical thinking skills, and the opportunity to express thoughts and feelings.
I have the pleasure of teaching art to grades K-5 in my diverse elementary school.
My students come in excited and ready for art every day. They are curious about artists and art processes and are always eager to try new things. Our population is very diverse and with that comes a variety of experiences and exposure of students to materials and experiences outside of the classroom. Some of our students have access to paints, clay, and other materials, or museums and camps, while others may not have crayons at home. My goal is make sure that all of my students have the opportunity to explore as many different types of artists, artworks, and materials as possible.
My Project
It is important in the art experience to experiment with many different mediums and materials. In the physical classroom we have access to many different supplies, but in the virtual classroom it can be more difficult to make sure all students have access to the same supplies.
I would like to make sure all of my students have access to watercolors at home as we begin our virtual school year.
We will be able to have a deeper and more robust art making experience together (but apart) with a variety of supplies that extended beyond drawing and coloring. I know our students will be so excited and motivated to paint along at home!
