This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My kids are designing their own investigations, and so they need to have testing kits to preform these experiments!

Science is a subject that is constantly changing.

Many of the newer advances in science are not in any textbook and can not be easily described through writing. Most of my students receive free lunch, and come in with very low skills, including about 30% of our students receiving special education services. I am having my kids design their own investigations about water, and I need water testing kits so they can explore the water that they drink at home, work and school.

My Project

My students need water testing kit. I have done this project in the past, and students really get excited about finding out what is in bottled water, the tap water at their homes, and even water from different cities or towns. Our school previously had a budget to help buy these supplies, but this year we can not afford the supplies, which is where you come in. What I enjoy about this project is that they are able to decide what they want to investigate and they can then design their own project that is all theirs. They are able to present their findings to their classmates as experts in the topic, because no one else has ever done the experiment that they chose! In addition, I am asking for a fuel cell car and a wind turbine because in a future unit we will be exploring alternative energy sources, so I would love to have examples of how other energy sources work to demonstrate to the students.

This project is important because it inspires students to do their own project, which they can feel responsible and proud of.

I love seeing some students really breaking out of their shells and letting their creativity shine in science!
