My Students

I teach 25 energetic kindergartners each day. The diversity found among these students is simply a mirror of our tourist-dependent community.

A large portion of my students are from single parent homes and over half of the district's population are classified at the poverty level and one-fourth of that population are classified as inter-generational poverty students.

When my students enter kindergarten, generally 50% or more score well below grade-level on our benchmark assessments.

My Project

Art is an equalizer in the classroom. In this day of Common Core and increased academic expectations, it is of utmost importance to include art in the curriculum. Not only does art help develop important academic skills, it is a way to relax, enjoy, explore, and create. I am always in need of art supplies. I am hoping to add these watercolor based items, including brushes, watercolors and paper, to our classroom. Each year we create beautiful watercolor pictures to add to our kindergarten portfolios. Children love them!

This donation will help provide an artistic outlet for my early learners, add to the beauty of their kindergarten portfolio and bring joy to their little hearts.
