This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My amazing K-2nd grade students are in a self-contained class for students with autism. They love to come to school and work. However, they struggle to sit in class all day and to try new foods. All of my students have sensory issues, and trying new foods (scents, flavors, textures, colors) is a real struggle. We have found that they are more willing to try new foods that they have planted and nurtured.

I am trying to create an outdoor classroom, where students will be able to participate in gardening activities, and lessons outside.

I have a water source near where we want to plant our garden, but we do not have a hose, nozzle or sprinkler to get water to plants. The funding of this grant would go a long way towards starting our edible garden.
