My Students

My students live in a diverse neighborhood in the north Bronx in New York City. They are from Bangladesh, Ghana, Yemen, Dominican Republic, Harlem, and more. What they have in common is their curiosity! They are smart, engaged and engaging, thoughtful, and always ready to take on new challenges. My job is ESL teacher, which means that I'm helping them find ways to express themselves, and I love getting to know them. They inspire me every day and I can't wait to see where they go.

My Project

We have been having a great year creating beautiful projects, even with the hardships of the pandemic. Students have learned to embroider, sew on the machine, hand sew, and block print.

Now we are working on individual projects, and we need more books and supplies to help inspire us.

We are planning a social justice quilt and Stitching Stolen Lives is the perfect companion book. The wonder clips and thread will help bind together our pieces, and the Art of Repair book will help us mend some fabrics that need some extra loving care.
