This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Creating a TK (Transitional Kindergarten) garden can be a wonderful and engaging way to teach young students about nature, responsibility, and the environment. It provides hands-on learning experiences that help develop important skills such as fine motor coordination, teamwork, and a sense of accomplishment.

How the Garden Will Make a Difference in Learning:

Hands-On Learning: Gardening offers children an opportunity to engage with the natural world, developing their observational skills and understanding how plants grow.

Sensory Exploration: Working with plants, soil, and natural elements allows students to engage their senses—touching the soil, smelling the flowers, seeing the growth process, and even tasting some plants.

Responsibility and Routine: Caring for plants teaches children responsibility, as they will need to water, monitor, and take care of their garden.

STEM Learning: Through observing the life cycle of plants, children will begin to understand (STEM) in a real-world setting.

Items that will make a difference in their learning:

Gardening Tools (small rakes, shovels, watering cans): Having child-sized tools will make it easier and safer for TK students to engage with the garden. They’ll also practice motor skills like grasping, digging, and pouring.

Planting Materials (seeds, soil, pots, and containers): Having a variety of seeds to plant (flowers, vegetables, and herbs) will help children learn about different types of plants and the conditions required for them to grow. The soil and containers will help to give them a space to grow their plants.

Goals for our project:

Foster an Understanding of Nature: Through the TK garden, students will learn about the environment and plant growth.

Encourage Collaboration and Teamwork: Working together on a garden project will encourage cooperation and communication among students.

Stimulate Curiosity: The garden will provide a rich environment for students to explore, ask questions, and make discoveries about nature.
