My Students

My Middle School students attend a specialized public school for students with disabilities. They have been diagnosed with Autism, and other cognitive/physical disabilities. There are six students in my class who require supervision, and assistance to help them further their independence in all academic, daily living, and vocational skills. My students are visual, and tactile learners. They are best engaged in meaningful activities in which they can practice their skills. They are a wonderful group of non/limited verbal teenagers. Please give them their chance to shine!

My Project

My students are in need of basic gardening supplies, to secure an understanding of environmental science.

As of recently, they have expressed an interest in gardening and plant life cycles.

My students and I have planted a few small flowers right outside of our classroom. Although my students have limited verbal abilities, a smile says it all. Students who have trouble initiating tasks, have been watering our small garden on their own. With your help, I want to encourage this new found interest, and foster the understanding of plant life cycles.

The materials requested, such as the root-vue farm, and "watch it grow" kits, will make gardening a visual and tactile learning experience.
