My Students

My students are from a large, urban community that serves students that face challenges on a daily basis. Many of my students come from low income homes. In addition, because of the environmental impurities that come with living in an urban community, many of my students suffer from health issues such at asthma. The NYC area has been hit very hard with COVID-19. As a result, many of my students have been personally affected as they have been exposed to anxiety, illness and even death. But still they rise!

My students take their learning seriously and have stepped up to the plate and continue to excel during this remote learning process.

However, they do not have access to the same resources that were available to them in the school building.

My Project

My students are completing their final year in elementary school. In addition to the challenges that COVID-19 have presented to them, they are getting ready to transition to middle school! By providing my students with the book "Free Lunch", they will read about a student transitioning into a new school just like them! In addition to being able to provide my students with this parting gift, they will have the opportunity to address their own anxieties regarding transitioning to middle school and the new challenges they will face, all through the wonderful world of reading!
