Washing Machine for Wonderful Students

My Project

Our vocational program provides critical learning opportunities for all our K-8th-grade students. One element of our daily work program revolves around hygiene. Using a washing machine and dryer is something many of us take for granted. Our children need experiential learning and ongoing practice opportunities to help them develop the skills that will foster their autonomy and independence as adults.

The COMFEE washer-dryer will allow students to launder items used in our cooking-baking centers, and the cleaning cloths they use for cleaning and sanitization of our school.

Students will learn how to use the washer and dryer, and fold and store the laundered items after drying. The work involved is necessary to developing their hygiene and organizational awareness and practices, and allow them to work on their eye-hand coordination, and fine motor skills as well. Students will also understand the need to sort and launder certain items separately, and what cleaning agents should be used when.
