My Project

Every day thousands of kids miss school because they don’t have clean clothes to wear. This makes many children chronically absent, and they are at a higher risk of falling behind academically.

Having access to a washing machine and dryer at school could help eliminate hardship and stress for students at our elementary school.

Our goal is to remove this barrier for our students and to be able to provide them with access to clean clothes and the best education they deserve. We also have a school care closet that provides basic needs to students that they may not have at home or if accidents happen. We keep clothing stocked for our students, and being able to wash these clothes at school would be very helpful.

Our elementary school has 386 students enrolled in Pre-K through 4th grade. Our school is a Title I eligible school. Based on the ZoomWV data, 56.67% of our student population is economically disadvantaged. There is a lack of resources at home, and many students’ basic needs are not being met. A washer and dryer could help our students overcome adversity, even if it is making sure they have a clean coat.

The students at our school are special for many reasons. They show a genuine interest in learning each day. Our students are hard workers and are resilient to overcome challenges.
