Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am an ESE (special education) and reading teacher at a middle school in Miami. I teach and support students who have emotional/behavior disorders and learning difficulties. My school is a Title I school, which means that about 99% of the students at my school receive free or reduced-price lunch due to their low socioeconomic status. The school is in a high-poverty neighborhood, so many of my students come from families that struggle financially. As a result, my students endure more problems than average children, which interfere with and hinder their learning.

My Project

It is very difficult during for students to learn at school during this COVID-19 era. Students are stressed and are lacking necessities because their parents are loosing their jobs, etc.

I would like to show the students that they matter by providing them with PPE, hygiene items, and things needed to stay warm.

Having deodorant, toothpaste, lotion, soap and pads for the young ladies is needed. We encourage students to have a good time during outdoor play during PE and Fun Fridays and sometimes it is evident that they have hygiene needs. A nice blanket and socks that they can use to stay warm at home will also help.
