Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from different walks of life. Some were born outside the U.S. without any knowledge of the English language while others were born here, but their English skills are still developing. They all share many commonalities. They are English Language Learners; they are excited to learn and they come to school with hope, enthusiasm, and an eagerness to learn.

I teach in an urban school where ninety-seven percent of students receive free breakfast and lunch.

In addition, they live in an area that is heavily populated and where there is a large volume of traffic. Although it is a struggle for them, they put forth all their energy in learning and building both their literacy and language skills.

My Project

These hats and fingerless gloves will come in super handy during these cold months. Due to the pandemic, we have to keep our windows open to offer our classroom proper ventilation. Now that the days are getting colder, we find ourselves allowing the children to keep their coats on; but we've noticed many don't have gloves or hats.

Please help bring my students warmth so they can continue to learn even when the windows are open and the cold airs seeps in.

I'm asking for hats so their heads could be kept warm. The gloves I'm asking for have an attachment that they can peel back to reveal fingerless gloves. I like this feature because when they don't need to write they can keep all their fingers warm. Then when they need to do writing, over half of their hands can remain covered. During this time, I want my students to be as productive as possible and it all begins with being warm.
