Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students represent a very diversified school. We have students from Israel, ex-Soviet Union countries, many of us never heard about, such as Georgia, Uzbekistan, Belorussia, in addition to the students from all over Asia, Africa, Central and South America. Our students come from low-income families. Many of them live in the shelter, far away from the school and take a long journey to come to school. Many of them are single-parent families or live in a foster family.

Despite the conditions our students live in, they show great attendance and are eager to learn.

Besides, the parents are very supportive of our school's unique programs we offer to their children.

My Project

As a teacher who truly cares about her students, it is my desire to help provide them with at least a small portion of essential clothing to wear to school or otherwise. Some of my single parent students lost their mothers due to cancer and their other caregiver cannot afford basic clothing. Another girl went through chemotherapy for the whole year and I really want to help her. Many of my students come from very low-income families and travel by public transportation long distances from their homes that are located in crime-ridden areas to come to our school. They are hoping to have an opportunity to get the best education in a safe environment. My students explain to me that their parent(s) or another type of caregiver hardly earn enough money for rent and food and can't afford the needed clothing.

Every child deserves to have essentials for living.

It makes me very sad and concerned when many of my students come to school day after day in the same tattered clothing which they must wear the entire school year. With winter fast approaching, they will not have a warm jacket, sweater, and gloves but they are continuing to work hard to be successful academically. I really really want to help my students, but I can do only so much. It is only thanks to Donors I will help my students to get some necessary supplies.
