“You can’t do it. YET!” Instilling a growth mindset in the classroom is empowering for young learners. Students remind each other that maybe you can’t do it yet, but with practice, you will be able to. As you walk through my classroom you may hear, “My brain is getting stronger.” When we make mistakes our brain gets stronger and grows. It’s amazing how students will try anything in my class without fear of failure.
Students challenging themselves and peers, taking risks, and persevering is exciting to observe as an educator.
Our Title I school provides breakfast and lunch for every student, which means less food insecurities and more learning. The class is structured so the schedule is predictable yet flexible. Students understand they get what they need to be successful and that doesn’t always mean they get the same things. My first graders are confident, kind, problem solvers, and are happy to come to school each day.
My Project
A safe, nurturing, and warm atmosphere describes our school in rural Montana. Our community works together to support our students and families in all aspects of their life. From fundraising for a child with cancer, to free monthly family meals, we come together and assist in more way than none. Parents work hard to support their families, but work is sometimes difficult to find and many jobs don’t pay enough to make ends meet.
My students need warm pajamas and slipper socks for the cold months in Montana.
Having a good a night's sleep and feeling warm and secure will allow students to be rested and ready to learn. Furthermore, it helps the whole family unit by having one less need to provide for.
Warm pajamas are an item that all parents want to provide for their child but many are unable to. Your donation will help these students feel warm and taken care of at home, and ready to learn while in the classroom.
