My Project

I currently work as a Special Education teacher, in a lower incomes section of my district, as a self-contained classroom teacher for children with autism. My students range from 1st to 3rd grade. All of my students display a range of needs and challenges that although common to being on the Autism Spectrum, are truly unique to them. Additionally, many of my students who come from a lower income household also are in need of support when it comes to warmer clothing, food and extra learning supplies for home. Each student struggles with limitations that include, but are not limited to, social and academic delays as well as communication and behavioral challenges. All their differences make them the beautiful person they are; having said that, each student requires something very different from the next.

Despite the differences and challenges that my students have to live with and face every day, they work tremendously hard to overcome these limitations; the need for appropriate and individualized materials is imperative in a classroom such as mine.

Ensuring that students with autism make the gains and strides that are necessary in order for them to truly be as independent as possible, requires an infinite amount of resources that could be utilized in order to assist in their learning and growth. The materials I am requesting will help ensure I am able to meet each of my student's individual and unique goals by specifically targeting exactly what they require and help aide in their comfort levels to ensure they are warm and have appropriate learning practice materials at home.
