Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are eager, young, English Language learners as well as struggling readers and our district is one of high need. My students are very enthusiastic about learning new things.

A previous trip to a farm opened our eyes to their misconceptions about the natural world.

We fielded questions such as, “do chickens have four legs and teeth? “and “why are boy birds more brightly colored than the girls? “ Their wide-eyed innocence and awe filled faces were adorable. I would like to get them outdoors more often to learn about local plants and animals. Creating background knowledge will enable then to better understand what they are learning in class.

My Project

This year has been a difficult year for many, especially financially. The community was hit particularly hard in the initial wave of Covid and many are still struggling to make ends meet while doing their best to remain safe. I am requesting winter clothing to help keep my students healthy, warm and dry throughout the cold, damp, winter months and enable them to come to school riding the bus or walking. The items I am requesting are, jackets, sweatshirts, sweatpants, gloves and socks. These items will be given to the students during the winter months to take home. This project will enable the students to come to school ready to learn with warm hands and warm hearts!
