My Students

My students have fallen behind in reading skills due to the pandemic.

Some are not wanting to read for enjoyment and are struggling to read required information.

My goal is to have them leave my 5th grade classroom with a love of reading that will stay with them throughout their lives.

Reading gives pleasure, instruction, information and ideas.

My Project

My students need the opportunity to read great novels from different genres while they search and discover what appeals to their interests.

Students will read these novels as a class with guided instruction, excellent oral reading examples and in depth questioning to get them to engage, wonder and love books of all kinds!

These books are on a variety of topics including the effects of war, chills and thrills, fantasy and learning to accept others while appreciating their differences and special needs. Students will participate in reading all of the novels and will learn different types of genres as well as different writing styles and what appeals to them and holds their interest so they can be directed to more books and keep that love of reading alive.
