Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Smiles. It's what keeps this classroom positive, engaging, and full of endless possibilities. We are a 21st century Kindergarten class and are ready to dive in to whatever new technology we can get our magic fingers on! We want to be a part of the world and everything in it!

Our class is a full one!

We have 25 Kindergarten students with backgrounds from all over the world, over 6 different countries and 4 different languages! It is pretty impressive to see all of the interactions throughout the day, we can communicate regardless of language barriers. With that being said, our school goal this year is to increase the vocabulary we use in our speech and writing. We continue to strive for ways to reach ALL of our students from ALL backgrounds, and prepare them for success! Our school is just as full as our class, with over 1,100 students, our class is one of eight Kindergarten classes! We are in our own mini-building apart from the main "campus" of our school, but even though there is some distance between us, we always try our best to stay in touch! Our classroom has endless energy and strive to use it towards our learning in as many ways as possible! :)

My Project

Part of our school's mission statement is, "Our learning community will provide an environment where all children are prepared to meet the challenges of the 21st century..." One of the ways we incorporated technology was to blog about hatching and raising the chicks we had in the classroom last year. This was one of the most engaging pieces we added to our class learning and our school community. We hope to continue to blog about our classroom, not just with our chicks, but for our pet fish! Imagine all of the reading, writing, and technology lessons! The possibilities are endless! We will also be creating podcasts that TEACH about our fish, chicks, and field trips we plan on going to! We are lucky enough to have a SmartBoard, but our current laptop is outdated and slow. We hope that with a high-powered laptop with a large memory, our activities will run smoother, faster, and keep up with OUR learning pace!

It's not just a laptop.

It's not just technology. It's a way for our students to connect with the world and begin their journey as literate individuals. A blog, podcasts, and SmartBoard are just SOME of the ways we will use this laptop. Just as fast as technology changes, is just as fast as our minds will race with new ideas and ways to challenge our thinking! This laptop will bring our classroom closer to our school community AND with all of the knowledge the world has to offer!
