This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

How can you do your work on a cluttered table? That's what my students deal with because they don't have a desk or cubby to store their belongings and supplies. How can you do work when your pencil has no point? That's the issue in my class because I have no working pencil sharpener.

My fourth graders are eager to learn and they have lots of supplies they need for school but nowhere to put them because our room is so small and they don't have desks or cubbies.

I work in a school in Spanish Harlem, NYC. Most of my students are from shelters and their parents don't have a lot of money. They are eager to learn and we have lots of supplies but it's hard to work with all our supplies cluttering up our space. My school budget is minimal, therefore we don't get a lot of the necessary supplies needed like pencil sharpeners. My students are always sharpening their pencils and I have gone through two sharpeners already.

My Project

I have requested two heavy duty pencil sharpeners and a class set of seat sacks. If my students had a place to store their supplies, their tables would be clutter free and they would have space to do their work. If my students had a good working pencil sharpener they would be prepared and have pencils to do their work throughout the day.

It sounds simple and it is.

Having these basic supplies will make a big difference in my classroom. My students would be so excited to have a place to store their supplies and to have a working sharpener, so that they can use it whenever their pencil points break which is quite often.
