Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am requesting subscriptions to Scholastic News, a biweekly magazine that will be filled with current events and non fiction topics. I am also requesting subscriptions to Science Spin, a monthly magazine that will have articles about various science topics. The information is age appropriate and very engaging.

I would like my third graders to read and interact with current events and learn about the world around them using the Scholastic News and Science Spin magazines.

The students will read the magazines during Independent Reading time as well as for class lessons. They will also read for enjoyment at home for homework. The topics they will read about will be about animals, life cycles, interviews with authors, countries around the world, and environmental issues.

This will enable my students to have access to additional high-interest independent reading material.

This informational reading is an important component of the New Generation Learning standards and will give my students the opportunity to be exposed to nonfiction/informational text.
