Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students love learning. They come in every morning with a smile on their face, full of enthusiasm about what the day in front of them holds. The most significant thing about them is how much they love their school. We are part of a school community where the school is brand new. The school we are a part of started a little over three years ago and my students were the inaugural class here. They are the first group of students to start the school and they are going to be the first class to graduate. They feel a certain pride being the original class here, they wear their school polo shirts with honor, and they love being a part of our community.

As wonderful as our school is because it is brand new, it is extremely limited in its resources.

Each year as the school grows, the students grow older, and a new grade forms. Unfortunately, each year that a new grade begins, we have to start over from scratch. My class of third graders is the first third grade class the school has had, so we really lacking in the resources that we need.

My Project

My students absolutely love reading. When it is reading time in the classroom they can't get their books out fast enough, settle down in their reading spots, and get going. They instantly fall in love with the characters and the stories they read about. The problem we face is that their love of reading can only go so far because we have a very limited amount of books. Being a new grade in a growing school the supplies and resources we have are few and far between.

I want nothing more than to bring in new books to get them excited all over again.

Mystery is a genre that is brand new to them and because of their age and interests I know they will fall in love. I would love to bring mystery books into their reading lives-add the element of suspense and surprise to their literary experiences. I need your help to bring more books in brand new genres into my library and into my student's reading lives.
