What do you get when you cross a lesson on a board and students with short attention spans and a love of TV and video games? I'm not sure, but it definitely isn't quality learning. I teach twenty-two energetic third graders at a public school in a very high-need community.
My students, who are accustomed to television and video games, need entertaining, engaging lessons to hold their attention and peak their interest. Therefore, the prerequisite of any lesson in my classroom is it has to be engaging. The most engaging lessons need materials and technology. Technology is definitely scarce.
There are not enough LCD Projectors available at my school to use them regularly in my lessons. If I had this one piece of equipment, the possibilities for engaging lessons would be endless---- from introducing new material, to showing brief videos to demonstrate points, or extra practice with simple review games. I will be able to make the learning experience more enjoyable for my students and certainly more effective. Using an LCD Projector for different lessons and activities would also be more cost-effective because it would decrease the money spent on markers, paper and other disposable materials. This will make a notable difference at a school with a very tight budget.
Children like to have fun and be entertained. Lessons taught through lectures and writing on boards are neither fun nor entertaining. By supporting this project you will make a huge difference in the overall effectiveness of my lessons and ensure my students are learning at their maximum potential. Please help my students be successful by supporting this project.
