This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a Kindergarten teacher in a low-income community with a diverse group of kids and a high number of ELL students. We work hard to maintain an environment that is fun as well as challenging for the children. Our students are curious and eager to find out what we are learning next.

Our kids are enthusiastic about school and ready to learn new things!

Our school is constantly building relationships within our community through family communication, after school activities and sports programs.

My Project

My students are in need of age-appropriate, interesting books for their classroom reading time. Every day they come to the library center and have the same choices of books to read. So I chose a complete Kindergarten set of books that contain a variety of low-readability, high interest, fiction/nonfiction, and classic authors.

I know these books will spark a greater interest in reading for my students.

Whether I tie these books into my lesson or the students discover them on their own, I am confident the new titles will give them a chance to rediscover how much fun it is to read.
